Featured Works Al-Bahira will perform selected performs selected contemporary works including: El Haggalla! Youthful energy abounds in this folkloric presentation of a form of dance done by young women in the Western Desert regions of Egypt and Libya. Women's Work "Belly dance" and other Middle Eastern dances grew out of the celebration traditions and day-to-day life activities of the people and especially women. Women would dance for one another, improvising to the music, and would pass the dance down from one generation to the next. This piece celebrates that spirit...with a wicked vintage American sit-com twist. Dancing Drums: Improvisation with live percussionists and a solo dancer. Play along as the dancer and drummer engage in call and response with each other and with you, the audience! Awakening A theatrical piece using Isis wings. This piece is part of a larger dance fairy tale work-in-progress. In this scene, we are introduced to a dark and powerful figure: the queen djinniye, or fire-spirit, and her sizzling sisters. Somehow I think this is who the Wicked Witch of the West wished she could have been....
