Belly Dance for Fitness - 60 min. class

Class description: These classes are suitable for both beginners and dancers with previous experience who prefer a one-hour day time class format for schedule or economic reasons. In this class, you will learn and work with several foundational elements of Middle Eastern dance. We'll focus on dance conditioning, muscle isolation, arm movements and carriage, movement combinations and drills to get your heart and body moving.

Who is this class for? This class was designed in a 1-hour format for students who may be trying to fit dance and fitness into a busy work day or family routine. It's also designed with those in mind who, in these recessionary times, find themselves unexpectedly available during the day--perhaps seeking lower-cost options for fitness/dance or additional reason to get out of the house and meet others in the community! The class is taught mixed-level. Beginners are welcome, but dancers with previous experience will get extra intensifying direction and arm coordination movements and will find the drills and conditioning in this class helpful for their technique development.

How is this class different from a "Regular" session/technique class  Obviously, in a 1-hour format we cannot cover the same depth of material covered in a regular 1-1/2 hour class. The class will introduce many elements of belly dance--muscle isolations, dance conditioning, basic movements, and some dance combinations--but the focus will be more drill-oriented, designed for building muscle strength and aerobic activity with a belly dance "vocabulary" of movements. This class will likely include less material on the musicality, history, and styles of Middle Eastern dance/belly dance than the regular courses, and there will be less focus on the use of finger cymbals and development of performance-style dance combinations.

What to wear: Dress comfortably for movement in workout-type clothing. Many people wear yoga pants, a leotard or similar attire with a tank top or t-shirt. Most students and instructors dance barefoot, but if you wish you may wear ballet slippers or other dance shoes. Jeans are typically not comfortable, and outdoor shoes and athletic shoes are not permitted.

Registration: Click on the registration form link below for registration, fees and policies. Please note: we typically only contact registrants before the session begins if there is a change or a problem with the registration. If you require a confirmation, indicate this on your registration form. Otherwise, you may assume that if you send in your registration and do NOT get a call from us, everything is fine and you are registered!
